A Celebration of the Scottish Six-Days Trial
Join us for a celebration of the longest-running motorsport competition in Scotland, the Scottish Six-Days Trial, where riders test themselves against the mountainous terrain of Lochaber on special trials motorbikes. Up waterfalls, over boulders? No problem! Every spring, hundreds of riders from across the UK and beyond converge on the area for this institution of motorsport events.
Great fun to watch, the Six-Days Trial has been a highlight in the area's sporting calendar for many decades. John Moffat, of the Scottish Auto Cycle Union, has been closely involved with the sport for over 30 years. One-time competitor in the event, John is currently Chairman of the Scottish Auto Cycle Union Trials committee. He has been the Scottish Trials results recorder since 2005 and his knowledge of the sport is encylopaedic.
John will trace the history of the event, focusing on the early history of the Six Days, with old photographs and archive Then he'll bring the talk right up to date with contemporary images and stories from recent competitions. There will also be the chance to see a display of old and modern bikes at the venue, and a trials display by young riders from across Scotland.
If you've never seen trials riders in action, this is the perfect chance to come along and find out more about this popular and technically demanding skills sport.
Saturday 24 February, Nevis Centre Festival Theatre, 7-10pm, £6/£2.
