Sea Kayaking Evening

Justine Curgenven

Life on the High Seas’ - Justine Curgenven shares tales from her adventures, along with incredible film footage and an exclusive first screening of extracts from her new film.

Justine is an adventure filmmaker, expedition sea kayaker and creator of the first-ever sea kayaking action DVDs that capture the passion of sea-kayaking: 'This is the Sea 1 and 2'. Her expeditions include a solo trip around Iceland's West Fjords, a 650km journey up the Pacific coast of Kamchatka with a novice RuJustine Curgenven sea kayakingssian kayaker and the first all-female circumnavigation of Tasmania. She represented England in the world surf kayak championships and loves surfing her seakayak in the tidal races near her home in Wales.

With a background in television production, Justine now runs her own production company, Cackle TV, and is an award-winning filmmaker with adventure documentaries shown on the BBC and National Geographic Channel. She's a regular speaker at international seakayaking symposiums and author of many magazine articles. She'll show incredible slides and video footage of some of her hair-raising adventures and reveal what motivates her to keep exploring new places by sea kayak.

Patrick Winterton'One Man and his Kayak' - Channel 4 and Eurosport winter sports presenter Patrick Winterton will join Justine to share stories and film of his sea-kayaking adventures around the north of Scotland.

Patrick's passion for the sport led him to undertake an incredible 870-mile paddling trip from Glasgow to the most northerly point of the British Isles, Muckle Flugga. Patrick's solo 'Scottish Extremities' expedition was the amalgamation of three routes he'd always wanted to do:  Tiree to Mingulay, the Hebridean triangle, and Thurso to Muckle Flugga. Having traced these onto a single map the temptation to join the dots was too great!

His one-man expedition was one of the most committing kayak expeditions ever attempted in British waters, with many of the route's crossings never previously paddled unsupported! Six weeks, 211 islands, sea arches and stacks, five Stevenson lighthouses and the world's largest gannet colony all feature in Patrick's entertaining film of his trip. Plus films, including 'Surf Kayak' a short film about the thrills and spills of surf kayaking, from Oban-based Andy Spinks who owns and runs the outdoor activites company Hebridean Pursuits. And don't miss your chance to win a FREE day's surfing tution on the night!
