Official Festival Opening Party

Mountaineering evening with Jo Gambi

An inspiring talk about perserverance and achieving your dreams against the odds. In 2005 Rob and Jo Gambi became the first married couple to achieve the ultimate adventurer’s ambition when they climbed the ‘Seven Summits’ (the highest mountains on all seven continents) and skied to both the North and South Poles, all while Rob was recovering from cancer.

The Modern Face of Everest

Climber Dave MacLeod is our host for this evening, which begins with the presentation of the inaugural Scottish Award for Excellence in Mountain Culture.

 

Mountaineer Kenton Cool and film-maker/mountaineer Matt Dickinson discuss the ethics of today's Everest. Is Everest now a morality-free zone?

 

Plus screening of 20-minute excerpt from film 'Everest the Hard Way' about Sir Chris Bonington's legendary 1975 expedition on the SW face of Everest.
