Our popular Mountain Skills Workshops give you the chance to develop your skills and confidence in winter conditions. Choose from Avalanche Awareness, Winter Walking Skills and Winter Climbing workshops.

 

The Ice Factor brings you great taster sessions on the rock and on their amazing indoor ice wall throughout the festival and NEW for 2007, special junior 'Taste the Rock' sessions for under 16s.

 

Mountain Bike Tours around the best trails in the area offer something for everyone, easy to challenging! Pick up some great tips to improve your biking while cruising around the hills.

 

NEW for 2007, the John Muir Trust presents a Writing Workshop in celebration of wild places, led by author and professor of Scottish literature, Margaret Elphinstone.

 

Mountain Skills Workshops

Our Lex on Left TwinMountain Skills Workshops are run in conjunction with Nevis Range and Abacus Mountaineering. This is a unique opportunity for you to come along and experience the adventure and satisfaction of Scottish Winter Mountaineering. All workshops are run by highly experienced and fully qualified mountaineering instructors. If you've always wanted to get out onto the mountains in winter, now's your chance!

 

Choose from:

  • Avalanche Awareness and Transceivers £40
  • Winter Walking Skills £40
  • Winter Climbing £75

Full-day Winter Walking Skills and Avalanche Awareness Workshops will be run on every day of the festival. 

 

Winter Climbing End of a good dayWorkshops will also be available on request for those with prior winter walking experience.

 

 

The prices include instruction and use of the Nevis Range Gondola, you need to provide your own equipment which can be hired at Ellis Brigham or Nevisport in Fort William and personal accident insurance which you can get through The B.M.C.

Ice Factor Workshops

For 2007 the Ice Factor will again be running a series of Indoor Rock and Ice Climbing Workshops, aimed at those new to the climbing world. Maximum of 6 people to instructor.

 

Taste the Rock

Your chance to try rock climbing on our indoor walls (up to 50ft high). We'll look at tying on, belaying and movement on the rock. 12:30 - 14:30 daily from Sat 17th February to Sat 3rd March. Price: £20 or £15 for Mountain Festival ticket-holders (includes hire of rock shoes, harness and helmet).

NEW for 2007 - Junior Taste the Rock

Why should the adults have all the fun?! For the 2007 festival, we're introducing special 'Taste the Rock' introductory sessions designed for beginners aged 7 to 15 years old. 10:30-12:00, 16:00-17:30 every day throughout the festival. Price: £15 (includes hire of rock shoes, harness and helmet).

 

 

Hit the Ice

Fancy a bash on the ice wall? Need a few pointers to get you going? 'Hit the Ice' workshops at The Ice Factor give you an introduction to the wierd world of vertical ice climbing with the security and supervision of their expert staff. Sessions run from Saturday 17th February to Saturday 3rd March, at 14:25 to 17:15 and cost £45 or £40 for Film Festival ticket holders. Adult beginners only (age 16+). Price includes hire of all equipment (boots, crampons, harness, helmet, axes and gloves).

 

Taste the Rock AND Hit the Ice

Why not make a day of it and try both? Combine both workshops for a fantastic introduction to indoor rock and ice climbing. Learn movement skills and basic ropework on the rock, then apply them on the ice. Suitable for adult beginners (age 16+). Times as above. Price: £65 or £55 for Mountain Festival ticket-holders.

NEW for 2007 -John Muir Trust's Wilderness Writing Workshop

Brand new for this year's festival, this is your chance to flex those creative muscles and see Author Margaret Elphinstonewhere the inspiration of wild places takes you. We're delighted to welcome Margaret Elphinstone, author and Professor of Scottish Literature at Strathclyde University, to lead this session that will help you explore your writing ideas in a relaxed workshop environment.

Mountain Bike Tours & Skills Workshops

Biking on Loch MorarNo Fuss is all about getting out there and having a good time.

Starting from an idea to hold a small event in the spare weekend left by the growth of the Fort William Mountain Bike World Cup, No Fuss now hosts some of the best outdoor events in Scotland - including the '10 under the Ben' mountain bike race, and the 'Big Triathlon', as well as offering mountain bike guiding.
